The Murderer ( Short Story)

It’s a cold night. Swathi was not feeling sleepy. Her husband Vishnu went to Chennai for a business tour. Swathi loves her husband much. She took her mobile.
As expected messages were there from him.
‘Hi dear’
‘Take dinner at right time’
‘Miss you so much’
Swathi smiled at looking the messages. She’d given her reply.
‘Me too ‘
At that time she felt some sound in the compound. Swathi opened the window. Everywhere it’s dark only. Nothing was suspicious. Since there’s a theatre nearby to her home she thought that it could be from the movie. Thinking she was about to close the window. She heard that sound. It’s a breathing sound. Yes . Someone is nearby. Swathi got highly tensed.
‘Oh My God’s
‘What I can do now?’
Thought herself she took her mobile by shivering hand due to fear.
‘Whom should I call?’
She checked her mobile. When she was about to call someone her door got knocked. Swathi was literally crying.
‘No.. don’t open Swathi.. it’s dangerous ‘ She warned herself.
He started breaking the door.
“Vani” when her husband Arun called him Vani came from kitchen.
“Hmm”
“What are you doing still in kitchen?”
“Vessel cleaning is not yet over..”
“I’m waiting Vani” Arun’s tone made her to understand what for he’s waiting. She felt smiling.
“Vani”
“Hmm”
“Come fast..”
“Ok ok..”
When Vani completed her work Arun tried to hug her.
“Wait.. I’ll change the dress”
“Is it needed?”
“What?”
“Dress is in need now? “ When Arun was smiling sarcastically Vani stared him without uttering anything. At that time a big scream they heard.
“Arun..did you hear that sound?”
“Yes..” He also got tensed. Immediately he got up and opened the door.
“Vani”
“Hmm”
“Take the torch light. It seems that there’s a problem” He pointed out the opposite house.
Both of them rushed there. At that time they’d witnessed theatre security Gopal there.
“What happened Gopal?”
“Don’t know..I got call from Swathi madam..she called me..but didn’t say anything..I got doubt.. that’s why I came here” When Gopal said to Arun, latter went fastly inside got followed by others.
“Arun “ Vani called him.
“Hmm”
“Swathi’s bedroom is in first floor”
They went there. Door was broken. Inside the room.. Swathi was found in the floor. Arun went near to her. Swathi’s eyes were staring at the ceiling. It’s confirmed that she’s dead.
Swathi’s body was taken in Ambulance. Forensic department was in search of evidences.
Inspector Ganesh observed the room. He didn’t get anything suspicious. The motive of the murderer is not to loot anything. That means it may be due to personal vengeance.
Thought himself he looked upon the faces of the people standing there.
“Who are you man?”
“I’m Arun sir.. Swathi’s neighbour”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m an electrician sir”
“Why you came here at this time?”
“I got a scream from her home sir…Thatswhy “
Inspector looked at Vani. She’s in tears. She couldn’t believe that Swathi got murdered.
Inspector didn’t ask anything to her.
Gopal was a bit shivering.
“Who are you man?”
“S..i…r…”
“Tell me”
“I’m security in the theatre sir. “
“Why you came here?”
“Swathi madam called me sir..”
“Means? “
“She called my mobile sir “
“How she knew your number? “
“Whenever she wants to take tickets she used to call me sir.. I’ll get her tickets”
“Gopal..”
“Sir”
“If you tell lies I’ll take into custody..you want that?” When inspector asked him he started crying.
“Sir ..please believe me sir..I said truth..I didn’t tell any lie..”
“Man..how can I believe your cock and bull stories? You can’t withstand my one slap. Better tell me what happened? Why you’d murdered her?”
When inspector asked him Gopal got fainted.
Inspector Ganesh was at his residence. He couldn’t get any clue in Swathi murder case. No evidence. No suspects. He was thinking deeply.
Read the post mortem report again. Nothing was helpful for him.
His mobile was ringing.
“Yes.. It’s Ganesh..Tell me..”
After hearing the information his face got bright.
Police station.
Arun Vani Gopal and Vishnu were there. They looked at themselves.
Inspector Ganesh came there.
“Sir..” Vishnu called him
“Yes”
“Why you called all here?”
“I’m going to arrest the murderer now..” When inspector told him Vishnu was crying..
“Sir..please give him to me sir.. I’ll chop into pieces” Ganesh came near to him.
“Do you love your wife that much?”
“Yes sir..She’s everything to me sir”
“Nice..” said Ganesh smiled and continued.
“This case was a bit challenging for me. No evidence. Nothing was there for us. But God has decided that murderer has to be punished. Yesterday forensic department George called me. He shared one information. What was that means..one foot print they got it.. especially right leg print was intense when compared with left leg. Can you understand how it’s possible? If one leg of anyone got injured he’ll naturally give pressure to the other leg . This point made me very clear who’s the murderer. I checked with Vani. Anyone got any fracture here I asked her. She said it’s Vishnu. I couldn’t believe. Enquired secretly about him. He didn’t go for business tour. He made his wife and others that he went to Chennai but he’d stayed in a hotel. Night he came there. In the theatre sound nobody noticed him. He simply came to his home and killed his wife Swathi..Am I right Vishnu?”
When Ganesh was asking him Vishnu didn’t say anything. Ganesh had shown the bill where Vishnu stayed.
“This is the hotel you’d stayed. Am I correct Vishnu?”
“Yes sir..”
“Tell me Vishnu..why you’d killed your wife?”
Vishnu took a deep breath.. His eyes got brimmed with tears.
“Sir”
“Yes”
“One glass of water please”
One constable brought him water.
“Vishnu”
“Sir”
“Can you give statement now?”
“Yes sir”
Constable was ready to record his statement.
Vishnu started to tell.
“As I’m having affair with my colleague..”
