Anita was beside herself. Even though the waterfall’s mist cooled her skin, a fire had begun to burn within. She couldn't reconcile the fact that Shiva had released her so soon.
Why didn’t time stand still? Why did love feel so incomplete? Did he mistakenly think I would find him wrong if he had continued?
At some point, her sense of self had vanished. How was she even supposed to speak to him now?
Didn't you come here to live with him? Then why these endless questions?
"Anita."
"Mm."
"Don't overanalyze everything."
"Mm."
"Unplug your intellect for a while."
"Mm."
"Experience your life."
"Mm."
"Do you like him?"
"Mm... so far."
"Then why this uncertainty?"
"Life itself is uncertain. So are the feelings that come with it."
"Do we stop living because of that?"
"No."
"Then what is it?"
"I shouldn't have to suffer tomorrow, right?"
"Think of it like this: You are crossing a road. You look both ways and walk carefully. you never want to meet with an accident. That’s all fine—but despite our caution, don’t we get hurt sometimes?"
"True. What I am doing now is exactly like looking both ways before crossing."
"Then this and that... are one and the same."
"Suppose you accept Shiva."
"In life?"
"No. Just to see what living with him is like."
"I understand."
"If, after a month, things don't work out between you two..."
"Then?"
"Another man will come to see you for marriage, won't he?"
"Yes."
"Will you place the same conditions on him?"
"That...?"
"Answer me."
"I can only think about that when such a situation arises."
"So, you're saying you can't give an answer right now, is that it?"
"Yes."
"Anita."
"Mm."
"Can I say something?"
"Mm."
"You have started falling in love with Shiva."
"Really?"
"If not, you would have refused by now. Your very curiosity confirms your love."
Anita felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her.

Shiva drove in silence. The earlier kiss—the union of their lips—had brought a profound stillness between them. Who would be the one to break it?
Lust is not a bad thing. Yet, the hesitation and intoxication it brings at the start must be handled with care. When natural desire arises between two loving hearts and finds its proper path, it only deepens their affection.
"Shiva," Anita called out.
He turned to look at her. Meeting his eyes, she said, "I’m hungry."
"Where should I stop?"
As Shiva asked, Anita looked out the window. They had passed Chalakudy.
"We’ll reach Thrissur in half an hour. Let’s go to Sapphire Hotel."
"Mm."
The car sped forward. It veered left from the national highway and entered the city. Passing the Sakthan bus stand, he parked in front of Hotel Sapphire.
Inside, the lighting was pleasant, and a song played softly in the background. They took their seats. When the menu card arrived, she handed it to Shiva.
"What are you having, Shiva?"
"Veg fried rice and Gobi Manchurian. You?"
"Fish Biryani."
Once the waiter left, Shiva smiled. "Anita."
"Mm."
"Sorry."
"For what, Shiva?"
"For pulling you toward me so suddenly earlier."
"It’s okay."
"Shiva... don't say sorry anymore."
"What happened, Anita?"
"Just be natural. If... if you feel like you want me... then take me."
Shiva was stunned by her words. "Why so silent, Shiva?"
"Nothing."
"One more thing," Anita added. "Keep it safe."
"Mm."
They began to eat.

That night, as the rain poured down, Anita felt drained.
"Shiva, what are you doing?"
"A book," he said, showing her the cover. It was titled Celebrate Love.
She smiled at the title. "What is it about?"
"It’s about how married people lose their spark at some point, and the ways they can rediscover that lost love."
"Interesting."
"That’s why I’m reading it."
"Can I go to sleep, Shiva? I’m tired."
"Goodnight."
Anita went to sleep, and Shiva read for a while longer. The sound of the rain intensified, turning into a torrential downpour. A slight sense of unease crept into Shiva’s mind.
He closed the book and went to the bedroom to lie down. Just then, a loud crack of thunder shook the air. Startled in her sleep, Anita instinctively reached out and hugged Shiva.
Shiva’s heart, already softened by the warmth of their earlier kiss, urged him to embrace her, yet he hesitated. Looking at her sleeping face, he felt a sense of fulfillment. She’s so innocent. I shouldn't disturb her, he thought.
He tried to gently remove her soft arms from around his neck to move away. But as he did, his eyes inadvertently fell upon her beauty. Despite his feeble attempt to restrain himself, he gave in. He drew Anita closer to him.
She lay against him like a garden of flowers. "Anita," he whispered. His voice barely came out.
He called her again. As if her ears had been waiting only for his voice, she murmured, "Mm."
Shiva’s heart blossomed. He began tenderly. He brushed his lips against her eyelids, traced her nose, and captured her lips. In her half-asleep state, Anita was completely swept away by his gentle touch.
She surrendered herself entirely. I am yours. Do what you will.
In the intimacy of belonging to one another, Shiva felt that clothes should not be a barrier between them. Their garments met the floor, and he embraced her as she bloomed like a lotus.
She hesitated for a moment, but he moved to ease her doubts. Closing her eyes, she lost herself in him.
As they reached the peak of their union, his mind was filled with peace. But then, her "condition" flashed in his mind. A question immediately followed: How did she feel?
Did she feel fulfilled?
Beyond the pleasure of their union, he felt a flicker of anxiety. Could I even ask her? What would she think of me? No, better not to ask.
How could one even discuss this openly? He looked at Anita. She had fallen back asleep. Shiva stayed awake for a long time, simply watching her.
